The state of gaming is pretty funny…

Out of every game that came out this fall, two of my favorites were made by Nintendo. Mario 3D Land and Zelda are technically lacking in terms of their visuals but still manage to look amazing. They feature neither online play nor achievements, and yet they’ve taken up over 50 hours of my time and still counting. Neither game featured any game-ruining bugs and will likely never see a patch to their content.

This is exactly what console gaming should be like: Fun, fast, and satisfying.  Jim Sterling of Destructoid.com makes a very good point when he says that current gen consoles have turned into shitty PC’s.  I bought Assassin’s Creed Revelations at midnight, and I had to wait 30 some minutes before playing it because of a day one patch and install times.  It just seems like the 360 and PS3 are plagued with issues like this and everyone accepts them.  In the meantime, Nintendo is making some fantastic games and we attack them for “not being up to current gen standards.”  I won’t lie, I do spend the majority of my gaming time with my PS3, but not this fall.  This isn’t what console gaming should be about, and I’m really hoping that the next Xbox and Playstation fix this problem.

Game of the Year.

Game of the Year isn’t a title  handed to one game by some high figure of gaming judgement. Just about every game site will give out their own award, and they’re almost always going to be different.

So arguments about what will be GOTY are irrelevant, what you enjoy the most is what matters.  If you really feel like you need someone else to validate your opinion, just find the site that picked your favorite game.

Just got back…

from the midnight launch for Skyrim.  I didn’t even plan on buying the game initially but I got caught up in the heat of the moment.  There really is no feeling quite like being surround by people who all share the same interest.  Gaming brings us all together at its best, I want to be a part of this crowd for the rest of my life.

This is my life coach…

So the 3DS is getting an ugly Add-on

Just click on the link and you can see the horror.  The thing is ugly, bulky, and has the gaming world ablaze with fury and speculation as to what Nintendo intends to do with it.

The way I see it, the add-on will be an optional kit meant solely for the 3DS version of Monster Hunter Tri.  Why do I think this?  Well because Monster Hunter Tri on the Wii had two control options: Wii-mote and Nunchuk, or Classic Controller.  Seeing as the 3DS already offers the same  controls as the Wii-mote setup did, this add-on will be the equivalent of the classic controller.

Now, this could also be a crazy move by Nintendo and potentially lead to a hardware revision, but I really don’t think they’re THAT dumb.  We’re too hot on the heels of their 3DS price drop, from which they gave away games to keep day one buyers happy.  If they want to keep their customers loyal, they wouldn’t pull a move THAT bold.

Here you go folks, fresh from the SCEA blog: the definitive unboxing of Uncharted 3’s collectors edition. Further proof that Nolan North is a very entertaining man.

I’m loving how Infamous 2, and now Uncharted 3, offer cool little items that you can actually wear and use in their special editions. Because there’s nothing cooler then showing off your love for a game everywhere you go. (No sarcasm intended)

Sonic CD!

Previously confirmed for XBLA, Sonic CD is now set to launch on just about every console this holiday. Every console except the Wii that is.. Having never played Sonic CD before, I couldn’t be more excited for the chance to finally do so. Oh, and did I mention it will have wide-screen support? No more “4.3” with generic borders like Sonic 1, 2, 3, and Knuckles had. There is no official release date as of yet.
